Christmas!

Hello everyone! I hope Christmas was good!!

Mine definitely was, being woken up early to check our stockings as the little ones were very excited is how it began, Sophie had asked only for chocolate when writing her list and didn't want to stop eating it when it came! Sophie and Zoe were both quite happy with the gifts I got them - matching Man United pajamas!!

The day progressed in usual fashion, people taking turns opening some very pleasing gifts and lots of smiles! I got a brand new suit which I was in need of as the one I had is far too small for me - the best thing about my new one is the blazer has 3 inside pockets!!

My Nan and Uncle Ian came round for a tasty Christmas dinner and a pleasant day! The Christmas special Doctor Who truly was amusing, I found the Doctor's assistant potato head person quite funny when he kept suggesting grenades!

So, tonight I am off to Nantporth to watch Bangor take on Prestatyn! Hopefully 3 points and some good entertainment. Tomorrow will be completely fantastic as me and Dad are off to Old Trafford to watch United v West Brom! It will be my first United premier league game and I cannot wait!

Sorry about this post being late but I forgot on Wednesday and ran out of time yesterday!

Chrriiiissstttmmaaasss!

Hello people! An on time blog here for once!

So, as of yesterday I have finished college for Christmas! This is fantastic news of course, and better so that The Marches don't break up until Thursday.

Today I had my second driving lesson, cruising around villages surrounding Oswestry and through housing estates so there was pletty of turning and gear changing and stop starting and stuff. Mad focus levels required!

The weekend saw me and Dad go up to Nantporth to cheer on Bangor, it was a good day and decent match but frustrating as we took a 2-1 lead but couldn't kill the game off and ended up drawing 2-2, dropping 2 points. United won and are top at Christmas! Also, it has been confirmed that on the 29th, me and Dad are off to Old Trafford for the Man United v West Brom game!!

Driving!

Hello! Sorry for another day late post, I completely forgot yesterday!

First of all, on Sunday I turned 17! It was mostly a good day but overshadowed by feeling really ill, like I have been many days and had many days in the past week off college because of this. I don't really feel too much different for being 17 but of course I can now start learning to drive which I am very much pleased about. On Sunday morning I went out into an empty car park with Mum, she taught me how to start a car and I even did some laps!! I was amazed at how easy it all was and was really looking forward to my first driving lesson.

Yesterday morning was my first lesson, I was picked up and taken onto Morda Road where - to my surprise - I was put in the drivers seat and was driving for the whole hour! We went through loads of different surrounding villages and went in a big circle, ending up back at my house. The lesson went well, a lot of gear changing and manoeuvring were very dominant. I only made one big mistake, a quiet right turning where I had to change gear and left the clutch down when trying to accelerate - Doh!

So, I break up for Christmas holidays on Tuesday and am very much looking forward to that! Two weeks off college of as many lazy days as I want and avoiding the frosty, cold weather sounds very good. I would like to thank Robin van Persie for his fantastic birthday present on Sunday - his extra time free kick to beat Man City! How brilliant that was! Also, on Saturday I was at Nantporth for my first game in a while to watch Bangor best Aberdare Town 4-1 in the Welsh Cup. Not too bad a game and very good to see Bangor progressing!

This weekend, Bangor are at home against Carmarthen so I will probably find myself there. United are at home to Sunderland so that will hopefully be 3 more points, keeping at least 6 points between us and City!

Under the weather

Hello! Apologies for the late post!
So, it is currently 2 and a bit days until I turn seventeen! I'm mostly looking forward to starting driving lessons of course, but also will quite enjoy seeing family members and eating food of my choice - probably chilli con carne!

Last weekend I made a very important and rewarding decision - I was in town, freezing cold, with my friends at twenty past two and chose to rather than stand around bored and desperately cold, go home to watch the England rugby. In the previous two matches, England had fallen just short against Australia and South Africa but Twickenham still stood full of proud English folk, hoping that somehow they could get a result against New Zealand.
New Zealand did their pre-match dance to try and imitate England, only to be drowned out by the fantastic crowd chanting swing low, sweet chariot. The match was brilliant and just as it looked like the All Blacks were going to take the lead, a flurry of spontaneous tries saw a good distance between the two sides.
A very proud match and result indeed! Bangor didn't fare so well and lost to TNS - the scum themselves - due to some terrible officiating. Bangor are still top of the table though! United narrowly saw off Reading in a 4-3 goal fest.

Sunday, me and Mum traveled to Wrexham and I chose a new suit (Christmas gift). It has two excellent inside pockets - a feature all jackets should have.
I have finally fallen to the same cold virus as everyone in my house and had the day off college today because of it. Not good!

This weekend, I am heading off to Bangor on Saturday for a Welsh Cup game, then Sunday is the much anticipated day of course! Hopefully United can give me a present in the form of beating City!
Finally, the brilliant Lower Than Atlantis have released a Christmas song! Join the campaign to see them at top spot instead of some shambolic boyband or X Factor group this Christmas by buying the single!

My new boots!

Hello people! The countdown to Christmas is now on!

Also, my birthday on December 9th is fast upcoming and I have great anticipation as I will turn seventeen and be eligible to drive! I will definitely be taking lessons soon and hopefully passing my test!

Focusing on the present, today I sorted out a recent problem as weather has gotten colder and wetter; purchasing the boots pictured below (courtesy of my Mum!) The problem I've had is in my typical day I walk to and from college twice and walk my dog. For college walking I've either been wearing cheap canvas shoes which are terrible for the conditions or adidas football trainers that aren't much better.
For dog walking, I have somehow managed in last year's school shoes. These seem to attract water and the result of all this is using two or three pairs of socks every day!

So, the boots will improve my life as they are warmer and much more waterproof - they'd also be better for kicking people!

Football wise, the weekend was great! Bangor battled to a 3-2 win in South Wales while TNS lost 3-0 at home to Carmarthen!!! This means Bangor are top of the table and 3 points ahead of TNS going into Saturday's match against them. United also won while City drew so they also went top of the league!

A decent few days indeed, I'm hopeful now that both can win again at the weekend!

3 day weekend!!

Hello!

So it's almost a week since the beginning of my life with a supreme gadget that's taken shape as a Sony Xperia U. I have definitely enjoyed having it, there's always something to do.

One thing I have found very entertaining is Football Manager Handheld. Whilst browsing the available apps, I saw the 2013 version for £5 and was interested but didn't want to risk a bad investment so i managed to get the 2012 version free!

I've been managing Bangor City and been glued to my phone screen! I think it's definitely an improvement from my old BlackBerry, and it's on a cheaper contract!

Music wise, this weekend I ordered Changing Tune (pictured below) the new Lower Than Atlantis album. Once again my faith in Amazon was renewed as it came after two days! I've only listened a few times so far and am liking it. Love Someone Else and Normally Strange are two highlights.

So at the weekend, Bangor beat Airbus 2-0 on Friday and are level on points with 1st place, only behind on goal difference. On Saturday me and some of the boys were at the cricket club for a day of sport. The day was decent, but results were not as England lost in the rugby and United lost to Norwich. Shrewsbury got a pleasing home win as consolation though!

. Due to a taster day on Friday, I will be having a 3 day weekend! This is nothing short of marvellous. I will again not be watching Bangor as they play away at Afan Lido which is about 120 miles away. I will though be watching England in a tough game against South Africa.

Arrivals a-plenty!

Hello people! I'm sorry about this post being late!

I've had quite a mad today, a lot to talk about! First of all, I ordered a Lower Than Atlantis medium sized shirt last weekend, it came but was far too big so we sent it back and requested an exchange for a small which came today and is a much better fit!

Then, as it is now less than a month until I turn 17 and begin learning to drive, we recently ordered my provisional license which also came today.

Finally, Mum yesterday got a Samsung Galaxy S2 and it instantly impressed me and thinking I'd have to live with a BlackBerry until February just killed me, so I drastically cancelled my contact, ordered a freepost bag to sell it on a cash for mobiles type site and ordered a Sony Xperia U! This completed the treble when it arrived today.

It truly is a pleasing device and provides a lot more than the BlackBerry. I am sure the many apps will keep entertainment levels at a high!

Finally, last weekend I enjoyed a good England rugby performance and a dramatic and unsurprising Man United comeback as they remain top of the league. Bangor didn't play and Shrewsbury lost. This weekend shall be rathet similar as I don't think I can get to the Bangor match tomorrow night and Saturday is rugby leading into Man United.

Back to a working week!

Hello peoples, I must say I'm not as happy right now as I was this time last week..

This is because half term has ended and college has returned, it feels a lot longer than usual considering the whole week off was brilliant and the countdown to the Christmas holidays is on!! The rest of last week was spent relaxing and going up to Bangor on Friday night on a very cold evening to witness loads of visiting Norwegians getting drunk and Bangor securing a comfortable 3-0 win. Saturday again was centred around football, this time witnessing a United win.

So, it is currently Wednesday which means I'm making the most of this very welcome day off which is marvellous at splitting the week up and helping towards the weekend. It is quite strange how Mondays and Tuesdays seem to be a struggle and drag on a bit while Thursdays and Fridays zoom by. At this halfway point in the week, my thoughts are pretty much all about the weekend and enjoying the England autumn internationals (rugby union matches) kicking off with a game against Fiji.

I quite enjoy watching rugby, especially England, but don't really follow any of the clubs. This is probably because my Dad doesn't either. If I had to pick, it'd probably be Harlequins or Leicester Tigers - both entertaining to watch and full of plenty of English players.

Giving Fifa a rest, I have (finally) started playing Skyrim again and can't believe I've not been on it in such a long time, it's a fantastic game with always something to do. Who doesn't enjoy slaying dragons?

Half term!

Hello and first of all I'm sorry about being a day late!

I do have good reasoning though, as yesterday I went with Connor and Jack to Wrexham to see Skyfall! Skyfall is the new James Bond 007 movie, and wow it was good. Daniel Craig is a fantastic Bond who never disappoints, the whole production was crafted so well together and everything was right - it's hard to find faults with that film. Anyone thinking about it, I would definitely recommend going!!

Then, due to missing buses and some being very late, I wasn't home until half seven when Coronation Street was followed by Chelsea v Man United in the League Cup.Which brings me to the weekend; first of all we broke up for half term so this week has been nice and relaxing, Friday night I had a celebratory curry at the Highwayman - my first public restaurant curry! Exciting stuff, then me, Dad and Declan went to watch Bangor thrash Connah's Quay 6-2 at Connah's Quay.

On Sunday me and the family went up to Caernarfon to see my Dad's brother Phil and his wife Jan until Tuesday. We celebrated Mum's 39th with a lovely meal in Wetherspoons (Chilli con carne of course) and exploring the town a bit. Also, on Sunday we watched Chelsea v United in the league, a thrilling game that resulted in a United win to close the gap to 1 point.

So, the match last night was disappointing that United lost, but, I would much rather have won on Sunday than last night. Today I have been doing some college work and this album came! (Below) I ordered it on Sunday for £3 brand new from Amazon - after two listens, that seems an absolute bargain!!

Feeling Down!

Hello people! Please don't refrain to indulge yourself upon this post.

So, Saturday night. October 20th. HMV Institute, Birmingham. Only one thing was happening that night, and that was a night of great music! Doors opened at 6, but we arrived at 7 as we banking on the venue posting a running order and set times on facebook which they never did, so I think we missed Warbeast (the first band). But I wasn't too bothered and the night went on.

By the time Orange Goblin came on (about half seven) the place was pretty much full, and me and Declan found ourselves standing about five yards from the bar. This was silly because everyone going to/from the bar walked past us so we were constantly moving a step forwards and backwards. Orange Goblin were alright, I'd never listened to them before and was impressed with their opener but the entirety of the set list was rather repetitive.

After what felt like an hour waiting for Down to take the stage, me and Dec had advanced into a much better position to witness what we'd come for. Down took the stage to the delight of the audience and from their opener, you could tell it was a special night. Highlights were Lifer, Stone The Crow and Bury Me In Smoke. Everything sounded really good and was expectantly loud, but whenever Phil (Anselmo, frontman) was talking to the audience, no one around us had a clue what he was saying! We just heard muffles.

All in all it was a really good night, I can't remember the last gig I went to before Saturday but I've been reminded with a heavy metal full on right fist to the chin that I need to get out to more gigs, so I intend to do so! (The photograph below is off Down on Saturday, taken by someone on the balcony)

Football wise, all day Saturday I stayed in watching Tottenham vs Chelsea in a manic and very entertaining match, then Man United struggle at first to a nice 4-2 home win over Stoke. I also watched them produce a mad fightback last night against Braga, going 2-0 down at home and winning 3-2. Defensively, they're not strong enough and they need to stop going behind and making matches more difficult than they need to be! Bangor were away at Port Talbot and the journey was just a little too far so I decided against it, they got a 1-1 draw. Shrewsbury are in very bad form at the moment and need some points, they lost on Saturday and again last night. Pick it up boys!

Down with the roof!

Hello people! Welcome to the post..

In the past week, I've enjoyed my week off college by being rather lazy and watching a few Bond films courtesy of the Sky Movies 007 channel which really is quite good! I've seen a few Pierce Brosnan films which I don't recall seeing previously and really do think I prefer the Daniel Craig Bond films, all of this Bond-ness adds to my excitement of seeing Skyfall later this month!!

So on Friday night England cruised to a much predicted 5-0 win over San Marino, but tonight against Poland I think they will be pleased with the 1-1 draw, but the performance was well below par. Sunday was quite interesting, seeing Shrewsbury live on TV in a rewarding 1-0 win  over Walsall, which moved them about five places up the table! A lot of relief there indeed.

The less said about Bangor on Saturday the better I think, the consolation from our home defeat was that TNS and Prestatyn also slipped up so things are pretty much how they were. Going back to college hasn't been too bad, I felt a little bored at the end of last week and at least now I've got stuff to work for, mainly being half term in a week and a half (or 6 college days) which I'm very much looking forward to.

So, this weekend brings the Down gig that me and Declan have been waiting for forever!! Saturday night at the HMV Institute in Birmingham will be where we are, I'm very much looking forward to hearing a rendition of 'Stone the Crow' that should blow the roof off! Also, premier league football is back - there's almost too much of it these days! I'll be sure to give many details of the gig in the next post!

Review week!

Hello and welcome to this on time weekly post!

I am in the middle of enjoying a week off, courtesy of the very generous Walford and North Shropshire college for 'review week'. So far I have done homework, watched films and TV, played / watched football and loads of FIFA! I'm now just over a month into college life and really enjoying it so far, all the lessons are interesting, taught well and the environment is great. My favourite lessons are Media and Film Studies, that's probably because we watch Iron Giant and Terminator in them!

On Monday night, me and my team the Spaghetti Hoops played our first competitive Monday Night League game! We're started in the bottom division and faced FC Farcelona - a bunch of lads same age as us that we mostly knew from The Marches. The game was a lot tougher than we anticipated therefore a poor start led to us going 1-0 down, but we grew into the match and roared back to gain a 3-2 victory. A good start to our season - also I've learnt we need to keep our heads on the ground a bit more!!

Last weekend was pretty good football wise, Friday night I travelled up to Bangor to watch them take on Bala Town (and got in for free due to a 'students in for free' promotion!), it was one of the best Bangor performances I've seen and the reward was a thrilling 5-0 victory! Saturday was just a day in town which is quite rare for me now, followed by my first ever Saturday night curry - picked over having the usual pizza and chips. A sign of adulthood I believe! Then I went up the road to our neighbours for a night of babysitting which gained me a tidy tenner, but the child was apparently a bit ill and woke up twice so the night was cut short and I was home in time for Match of The Day!

The Shrews lost again which isn't too good, but hopefully they can pick it up when they play on Sunday live on Sky! The United match was Sunday at Newcastle, they started fantastically and won the game 3-0 with Tom Cleverley scoring a fantastic goal that people can't decide whether he meant to shoot or cross! Last night me and Dad went off to Bala to watch Bangor in the much postponed League Cup game and I certainly wish we hadn't. A terrible and half hearted performance earned a mix and match Bangor side with a 6-1 defeat. Totally embarrassing, but the Friday result is the important one!

This morning I watched Bourne Ultimatum, and after thinking Supremacy was good, my standards have been  redefined. Ultimatum is a fantastic action packed adrenaline fuelled monster of a film - a definite must watch!! Also I have finally updated my profile picture for this blog, it's about time too haha! On a final note, the next blog won't be as football dominated as it's the International break now, but I'll be watching England, Bangor and Shrewsbury this weekend!

Football overload!

Hello all and welcome to this day late post! Apologies for the delay, now then..

So the weekend was okay, the Shrewsbury game was really entertaining but they couldn't finish any chance and lost 1-0, not good really as home games are where you should be picking up the full points! On the drive back, our moods sank even more as the radio commentary for the Man United game told us that Tottenham had scored after about two minutes and never looked back as United - like Shrewsbury - stumbled to a home defeat. The only good result of the three was that Bangor earned a pleasing 1-0 victory away at Carmaerthen; a goal from top scorer Chris Simm (now on 7) and a clean sheet!

Also, I made a mistake last time by saying that Bangor, Man United and Shrewsbury were all playing on the same day as the Shrewsbury game is on the 9th October. We made the decision to go watch Bangor, but yet again the match was called off and postponed another week! Luckily, the United game was a fall back s we watched them struggle at first to a nice 2-1 win and now they're on 6 points from two games. The problem is that now Bangor and Shrewsbury both play on the 9th, but I believe for a third game, the Bangor came could get postponed!

On Monday night, me and nine friends went to the Venue at Park Hall to play our first 6 a side match! The league starts this upcoming Monday and the match we played was one to see which league we'd be put into, our team - Spaghetti Hoops - beat FC Farcelona 4-3 and we were all really pleased, apart from me having to take one for the team! I've found out that we'll be starting in the bottom league which makes our result less impressive but gives me confidence that we can win plenty!

One thing that's kept me very busy in the past week is the new Fifa! I'm sure everyone is aware, but it was released and came on Friday morning and I'm glued to it! So many improvements have been made from the last one and it's as entertaining as ever.

Last night, I watched a team who are soon becoming one of my favourites, certainly my favourite German team: Borussia Dortmund, as they played Man City at the Etihad. It was a really good game to watch, Dortmund played some great football and if it wasn't for Joe Hart with a world class display, it could have been 3/4 goals up for Borussia. City though got lucky and a late equaliser, what a shame! Respect to the travelling fans, they went in their masses, were apparently singing Shinji Kagawa songs with Japanese tourists and created an atmosphere than Man City can only ever dream of!

Moving on swiftly..

Hello and welcome to The Rising Sun! Without further ado, I shall dive straight in...

The weekend was a bit hit and miss really; Saturday was shocking as we watched a terrible performance from Bangor deservedly earn them a 3-0 loss to TNS at their place. The worst thing about the game was all the mind numbing shrieking kids - it wasn't at all a football match atmosphere. Instead, it felt like a horrible seven year old's birthday where everything is corrupt and wrong.

Sunday brought better fortune as we watched (on TV) United go to Anfield, get through all of the Hillsborough build up and take more points from one game than Liverpool have got all season! Great stuff, not the best of performances and a few key players missing but United manage to get these big results that they need. Now they sit 2nd and are looking good for it! Tonight they hold my focus, as they're playing a Cup game at home to Newcastle and should play some younger lads (as we have MUTV, we've become familiar with the youths) and hope to get through to the next round!

The turn of this week has brought with it some horrible weather, rain all day Monday, most of Tuesday and less again today - winter is coming is all I can think! The weather postponed a League Cup game that was to be played between Bala Town and Bangor City yesterday, now the game is next Tuesday and quite a problem has been created: Man United are playing a Champions League match, Shrewsbury are playing a cup match against Crewe and of course the Bala - Bangor match. Deciding which one to go to is something I'm not looking forward to!

Speaking of Shrewsbury, this weekend I am to embark on my first Saturday and my first lone trip to Greenhous Meadow as the Shrews host Swindon! Bangor are playing away at Carmarthen which is a 200+ mile round trip that neither me or Dad fancy, and I'd rather get out to a game than watch United on tele. After a 2-2 draw at Hartlepool last weekend, Shrewsbury - and I - will be hoping for 3 points!

Hopefully then, Bangor can bounce back, United can carry on some good form and Shrewsbury can pick up some points this weekend! Thanks for reading!

True Blue

Hello readers! I am writing today after a pretty relaxing and ever welcome day off college.

I may have explained before, but every Wednesday, I have a whole day off! This is by far the greatest perk of my timetable and journey into college life. So, the past week has been mostly just doing college work and playing football with friends, this weekend has been a similar one in terms of routine to the current season so far; I went off to watch Bangor City! The match was against Afan Lido, an average side who were really lucky to win their last game and they were facing up against a Bangor team in good form and looking for nothing short of a win.

A win is what Bangor got, and a great performance accompanied a lovely 4-1 scoreline. The first half was more frustrating than anything, as Chris Simm missed a few good chances and they equalised a minute or two after the deadlock was broken with a flukey deflected effort. So we went in drawing and feeling hard done by at the halfway break, but Nev Powell must of given the boys quite a talking to as they came out, took control and finally found the net! Les Davies fired home the second - a powerful bullet-like header for the guy who needed a goal most (This was his first of the season), then Chris Jones got a second and Damien Allen finished them off with a good piece of passing and moving, losing his marker and receiving a great setup from John Owen (Promising young lad who's come through the youths) and never looked like missing.

So three points to stay top, possibly the best display at the new stadium, and the news that TNS only drew 0-0 were great factors - Bangor play at TNS next weekend and the rivals have got 2 points from their last 9 and haven't scored in three games. All encouraging factors!

It was at the match this weekend when Les scored that I realised just how much I'm currently enjoying travelling to watch City, the past week dragged so much that on Monday I was wishing it was Saturday for the match! Never before have I felt this passionate about football or Bangor, and I've been watching them since I can remember (Not down to choice like now though, Mum used to work Saturdays so I was with Dad and Bangor was where he went). At the game, me and Dad signed up for the Supporters Association and to truly show how much I love it, I bought a shirt! (Right)

It was great that United got a comfortable win while City only drew as well, and last night me and Dad went to watch Shrewsbury playing Coventry which resulted in an entertaining 4-1 for the Shrews, a much needed result! I'm now looking forward to the United game tonight and watching Bangor in possibly the toughest game of the season at the weekend!!

College is cool!

Hello readers! Sorry about the gap since my last post!

Last week I started college! I'm attending Walford and North Shropshire College; the Oswestry campus to do A Levels in Pschology, English, Media and Film Studies. So far I am a week and half in to college life and am quite enjoying it! The best bit has to be the fact I have no lessons on a Wednesday and at least one free lesson every other day so I'm effectively only doing a four day week!!!
My favourite lessons are definitely Media and Film, I didn't enjoy Psychology much last week but it's definitely gotten a lot better this week. Also I already feel comfortable in and around the campus, I recognise quite a few faces and am enjoying being able to wear my own clothes all the time too - all good so far in summary. Now to football!

A week ago yesterday I traipsed with my Dad, his mate 'Ballo' and Declan to watch Bangor face Aberystwyth at Aber, I was hopeful of another 7-1 turnover like the one experienced on Saturday (That was live on TV so we stayed at home and watched), but this match was a lot different. It ended up 0-0, very few chances for both sides as Aber set out a lot tighter defensively and were aiming for a draw. The only highlight was when Jamie Brewerton got straight red carded for what the ref called a two footed challenge, upon first sight it looked harsh, watching it again on a highlights programme you wonder what on Earth the ref is doing! To make it worse, Bangor had an appeal against the red card dismissed!! Anyway what can you do, he's now out for three matches.

On Saturday Bangor were away at Airbus which is pretty much Chester so that was a short half an hour drive for me and Dad on a really hot day (where I foolishly wore tight jeans!) to enjoy a good ol' game of football. Bangor won 3-2, Chris Simm with a first half hat trick but yet again there was more shocking referee-ing, it really makes you wonder what's going on behind the scenes. So three well deserved points there and all week now I have been really looking forward to next Saturday where Bangor are hosts to Afan Lido; it's dawned on me how much I'm enjoying watching / following City this season - the only game I've missed is the 7-1 Aber game!

Today me and Connor Watts went to Wrexham Odeon cinema to watch The Sweeney, it was absolutely brilliant and I had a great time.In all, I'm enjoying college, can't wait for match days and everything is pretty good at the moment!

Venture into the unknown

Hello and welcome to my realm!

It's been a while since my last post and quite a bit has happened; last Saturday I travelled with Dad to watch Bangor away at Newtown (much shorter journey for us) where the officials were terrible, Bangor went 2-1 up with 5 minutes left and somehow lost the game 3-2. In the car back was pretty tense too as the radio described a pretty tense victory for Man United over Fulham (again, 3-2 but this time in our favour).

This past week has been my last of summer freedom as tomorrow (Monday 3rd September) I start college! I'm looking forward to it and seeing how it varies to school life but hope my timetable contains free blocks, maybe even a free day!! On Wednesday I ventured into Wrexham with Declan and Jack to watch Ted and as all the reviews state it was hilarious, I was laughing from start to finish and thoroughly enjoyed it.

This weekend, Bangor's match at home against Aberystwth was televised live on S4C so we decided to save the petrol money and watch from the sofa. We could not believe our eyes as after 6 minutes Bangor were 2-0 up and continued in this vein toward a resounding 7-1 demolition job! Quite a bounce back from the disappointment a week before! Today we - again from the sofa - watched the Southampton - Man United game and despite a terrible performance from the 11 that saw United 2-1 down with 5 minutes left, the magic of Robin van Persie occurred and an amazing 3-2 victory was achieved thanks to a van Persie hat trick!!!

So far too many 3-2's for my liking but what can you do? I'll post in about a week talking about how I'm finding college. Thanks for reading!

Birthday treat

Hello and welcome to my blog!

This week has been quite a good one, especially in the footballing world as Man United sealed the deal with Arsenal to sign Robin van Persie! This transfer has strengthened United's attack so much so that people are now comparing the current strike force to the one we had in 1999 (When we won the treble!). Since then, rumours about a loan deal for Kaka to join the Red Devil's for a season have been circulating and Sky Bet have massively slashed the odds so things are looking good!

On Friday Bangor City played the first league game of the season, at their newly named The Book People Stadium against Connah's Quay. me and my friend Declan went with my Dad on his birthday to see if Bangor could get the best possible start to a league campaign. Things started well with Chris Simm putting City ahead inside 10 minutes and the first half hour of the game looked like Bangor were on to a comfortable victory, but a bit of complacency set in and a few minutes before half time they conceded and so went in level at half time.

At this point, the only people in the ground who were pleased were the fifteen away fans. I wriggled a few pounds off my Dad to get a nice chicken and mushroom pie from the refreshments and must have been stood there queueing, in the rain, for at least twenty minutes of the second half. All I could see was Bangor dominance and getting unlucky to not have taken a lead when all of a sudden Connah's Quay had a break and a shot fantastically saved onto the bar by Lee Idzi. When I finally got back to my seat with the rather satisfying pie again I was seeing City chances. The goal eventually came when sub John Owen pinged a ball into the box which bounced up and struck their defender on the arm, this caused the stadium to explode into cries of 'HANDBALL!!!', the referee obliged and we were awarded a penalty, with three or four minutes to go. Up steps Dave Morley who confidently tucked the penalty away and has increased his Bangor status as a match winning hero.

We drove home happy overall at the victory, and a late goal is always special. The day prior to this, as a birthday treat, me and Dad went to see Expendables 2 on its first day of showing in the UK. We were thoroughly entertained and can confirm it is definitely as good as the first, Chuck Norris even makes an appearance! To celebrate the birthday further, my Nan and her husband Ian gifted him with three crates of strongbow cider, something that will keep him busy for sure!! Yesterday we went for a Wetherspoons meal again due to the birthday, and for the first time in too long I had the beauty that is a chili con carne.

Super summer!

Hello! Sorry about leaving yet another sizable gap between posts, I've just been a bit busy recently.

So, on Tuesday 31st July I went to the Greenhous Meadow again with my Dad and this time my uncle Phil to watch and support Shrewsbury. This match was another pre season friendly and was against Wolverhampton Wonderers (who last year were relegated from the Premiership). In the first half, Wovles had a weaker side out and Shrewsbury were miles better and had a nice 2-0 lead at the break thanks to goals from Terry Gornell and Marvin Morgan. Second half, Wolves switched the majority of their team and managed to pull two goals back so it finished up 2-2 which was a fair result as each team had moments of dominance and were rather equal overall. The highlight of the game would probably be the Shrewsbury fans chanting "Are you sure you're not Wrexham in disguise?!", I'm glad I went and am looking forward to attending more games this season.

I have spent most of time either playing FIFA, playing football or watching football so far this summer and we've had suitable weather for it; day after day of clear blue sky and luminous sun. Also, as long as the weather stays good, I can predict this pattern continuing right until the start of college. I am eagerly awaiting the end of September, for the release of FIFA 13 (which I have pre-ordered), all the screenshots and clips I have seen of it look amazing and a big step up from FIFA 12!

This Saturday, I am going with my Dad and Declan to watch a Bangor City pre season game against Chester in the day, then rocking hard with Declan in the Ironworks watching The Misty Blue Trio by night! We saw this band a few months ago when the Miners Arms pub in Morda put on an all day event and were very impressed so I'm very much looking forward to that, my best musical discovery so far this summer has been Lower Than Atlantis; I've got their World Record album and every time I listen, it gets better and better. I highly recommend you give them a listen and perhaps even see them live this October, as they are touring the UK at the great price of £10 a ticket!

Sun!

Hello world!

Last Saturday - a week ago today - me and my family were touching down at Manchester Airport and driving back into Oswestry after a week in the extreme sun in Corfu. We had a lovely holiday altogether, just at some points the heat was unbearable - we went into Corfu town via bus and on the return journey I was so sweaty I couldn't hold on to the support bars as my hands were slipping!!

Since being back in Oswestry, we've had some great weather (sunny, dry but not too hot) and remarkably I wasn't burnt once in Greece but here I have been burnt on my shoulders and neck! On Tuesday me and my Dad went up to the Greenhous Meadow to watch a Shrewsbury Town pre season friendly against Birmingham City. This was my first ever Shrewsbury match and it was a very enjoyful experience, Birmingham won 2-1 but had a better side especially in the second half when they brought on 7ft Zigic up front! We were impressed with the striker Marvin Morgan, Matt Richards in midfield and versatile defender Grandison and are going to attend the friendly against Wolverhampton next Tuesday!

Now, I am enjoying the sun playing football, relaxing and seeing friends, here's to a great summer!!

Catch up

Hello, sorry about how late this post is, I just haven't got round to doing it.

First of all, I'VE FINISHED SCHOOL FOR EVER!!!!!
Monday 25th June was my last day, doing science lessons and a science exam to end it. So I'm currently enjoying my huge summer and am glad to be away. The night before that, I watched England suffer yet again to the evils of a penalty shootout with disappointment in my eyes; we played well against the Italians and even looked like we were going to win the penalties but that didn't last. It is a shame to see us go out, but I think Roy Hodgson did a decent job - we did finish top of our group and are now ranked #4 in the FIFA World rankings. This means we're supposedly the 4th best team in the world. Whoah.

Last Tuesday (26th June), me, my friend Declan and my Dad went to watch Bangor City play Cefn Druids in a friendly which Bangor won 2-0. This experience reminded me how much I miss going to Bangor and how much I'll miss Farrar Road as they now have a new ground. Bangor played well in the game and a 2-0 is probably a fair result, both teams looked rusty but that's understandable as it was a warm up friendly. This game was preparation for the UEFA Europa League match at Nantporth on Thursday (5th July) against Moldovan side Zimbru Chisinau. Again, me and Declan accompanied my Dad and his friend Matt to attend and support the Blues. The game was good and Bangor were unlucky to not have taken a lead with them as they will travel to Moldova for the 2nd leg. Also, because of that match, Zimbru's manager has been sacked - this sounds like good news. The highlight of the game had to be a Bangor fan shouting "Gypo on!" when one of the Moldovans was closing down on an unaware Blue.

I've spent most of my free summer holiday time so far playing a lot of football with friends and for the majority, we've had suitable weather. Hopefully it will remain sunny / dry so this can continue, no one likes a rainy day.

That's it for now and I will make sure the next post is not as far off as this one was.

The Euro's and Down!

So, it's the Euro 2012 competition and England are looking good to progress!

I have been impressed with Roy Hodgson's faith in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and the successful tactic he's set up. The 4-4-1-1 that we've seen a few times recently with Ashley Young playing as a support to Danny Welbeck / Andy Carroll. Also, it's very nice to see Danny Welbeck - a player I have watched progress through the Man United Youth and Reserve teams - fronting England's strike force and performing well. Just 1 point is needed to get through to the quarter finals and I am hopeful that we can do that, considering that Wayne Rooney is eligible for this game.

Some excellent news that I was recently greeted with was that metal supergroup Down are playing a few gigs in England in October! I will most definitely be attending one of these dates and cannot wait! Down feature frontman Phil Anselmo who I love from being the Pantera singer back in the day. Down are a great band, with sludgy, funky, chilled vibes that can do no wrong in my eyes - have a listen to this and tell me what you think!

Half-term!

So, as the title suggests, this past week I've been on a half term from school (A week off) woo!

Overall it wasn't anything special, just a welcome rest from hectic revising and exams. On Monday (4th June - Diamond Jubilee) The Miners Arms pub in Morda put on a day of music - 2pm til 12pm - in recognition of the Jubilee and to raise money for a little girl called Evie Lou who needs money for an operation. I arrived promptly at 2pm with my good friend and dancing partner Declan, kicking off the day was Tom Stedman with an acoustic set. Tom is my friend Jamie (Silent Blackout lead guitarist) 's guitar teacher and he plays Andy McKee style music, where he produces mystical and dreamy notes and taps the strings and body of the instrument at the same time to provide a real chilled, intense and calm effect to his music. I thoroughly enjoyed his set and look forward to the next gig!

Another of the highlights and early in the day performers were a band from Welshpool called The Misty Blue Trio who I hadn't seen or heard of before Monday. They played some really cool funky styled stuff, lighter than what I usually listen to but it was truly entertaining, some simple but effective guitar playing, a very powerful and soulful voice, a dominant and electric bassline and solid drums. Excellent stuff! The only real downside to the day was probably and old school teacher called Mr Jandrell who performed a rather dodgy set, the less said about that the better.

If you're curious, check out both Tom Stedman and The Misty Blue Trio on YouTube and Facebook now to see what I'm getting it and let me know what you think! The rest of the week flew by, Tuesday I stayed at my Nan's and with the company of my Nan and Ian watched a very informative and entertaining Che Guevara film about how the Cuban revolution came about, then the ever brilliant Bad Boys. Wednesday took me, Tom and Declan to Wrexham in rather sour weather, I obtained a few cds, had a day full of 'funnies' and ate exquisitely at the plush McDonald's. Thursday I decided to brave the rain and play football, a decision that saw me returning home drenched from head to toe, still good fun though! Friday I watched Transformers 3 for the fist time, I was a little disappointed as it's far more slow to kick than the other two and is too long.

The only upside of going back to school is of course seeing friends and every day brings me one day closer to June 25th (the day of my final exam)!

A summary of recent events!

Hello bloggers, today I have a few topics to indulge in:

First of all, on Friday night, the Ironworks hosted an evening consisting of good sets from Stray Bullets, Cool Kids Write In Blue and Silent Blackout. This event cost a mere £3 and for 3 bands and a night of good entertainment, there really is no complaining. Stray Bullets opened things up marvellously with a fantastically electric rendition of Rage Against The Machine's Killing In The Name Of - a song I could not resist going mental to! Cool Kids Write In Blue were in my view the weakest act, playing covers of Lady Gaga, Enrique Iglesias and New Found Glory aren't things that appeal to me and I was pretty bored. Silent Blackout performed consistently and you know what to expect. Unfortunately I left before the end due to feeling very dehydrated - The Ironworks was sweltering and I was dying for a glass of water.

That wasn't the only thing that made last weekend fantastic - especially from a sporting point of view. This was because we had the Harlequins v Leicester rugby union Premiership final, the England v Norway friendly, the England v West Indies cricket, the England v Barbarians rugby union match, the Crewe Alexandra v Cheltenham League 1 Play-off final, the Monaco F1 Grand Prix AND Soccer Aid 2012! At some points, it got a bit too much as we were so spoilt for choice! I managed to soak up moments of everything and was impressed with the majority - the biggest highlight has to be Nick Powell's stunning strike in the Crewe match, he was the main reason for me wanting to watch that game as there is a lot of talk of Man United being interested in signing the 18 year old attacking midfielder and that goal proved he has a lot of confidence, initiative and can perform on the big stage (the game was held at Wembley). The only disappointment was Lewis Hamilton's performance in the F1, seeing him finish 5th isn't too impressive.

The big news from my point of view today is the release of my rap group - Rat Soup's first song on line!! The track 'Legacy' has been posted on YouTube and can be viewed below. It is the first track we wrote and we are extremely proud of it. Progress with other songs, merchandise, interviews and even a music video are under way! Please tell me what you think of the track and subscribe to us on YouTube if you enjoy!

To finish off, today (Thursday 31st May) is my sister Sophie's second birthday! She's had a set of play food and a cooker to keep her happy and relatives are set to visit to ensure a good day for her and all involved.

Thanks for reading! Hope you enjoyed the track!

Let's get 'Apocalyptic'!

Yo yo yo bloggers! Today, I have some very cool news; the new Slash album is out!!!
This post may be a few days late as the album (and Classic Rock fanpack edition) came out on Monday 21st May but better late than never! I had totally forgotten about the release and would like to thank Jamie McGowan who not only reminded me of it but also accompanied me to purchase it.

The Classic Rock fanpack cost £14.99, for this you get the new cd titled 'Apocalyptic Love' with 2 bonus tracks, a 130+ page magazine dedicated to Slash, the others involved in this album and everything you need to know, you also get a huge double sided Slash poster and a pin badge! I think this all justifies the price as the album alone costs around £10. I am very glad of purchasing the fanpack version and have enjoyed reading the magazine whilst blasting some good rock 'n' roll!

'Apocalyptic Love' is Slash's second solo album and this time, instead of having a dozen guest vocalists to do individual tracks, the man in the hat has decided to team up with Alter Bridge frontman Myles Kennedy as the sole vocalist. I appraise this move - Slash toured the first solo album with Myles doing all the vocals and if you witnessed any of those gigs or have seen / listened to the Slash - 'Made In Stoke' live album / DVD, you will feel pleased about this decision. Myles is a fantastically talented vocalist who has proved himself by performing some beautiful, melodical and old school R'n'R with Alter Bridge - a band I saw live last November and can testify to Myles being a great singer - and to me is perfect for the job.

The album itself is fabulous, tracks that stand out to me are 'Halo' and 'Anastasia'. There isn't a mellow or dull moment, Slash really knows what he's aiming for here - a full out rock and roll record with no hold backs or compromises. It really is a good job that this fella is still kicking around in the world of music these days and saving little bits of our sanity that modern pop music is always trying to take away, so I'm ending this post by saying thank you Slash! If you haven't got the album, I'd recommend it to any Guns 'n' Roses, Velvet Revolver, Snakepit or Alter Bridge fan.

Prom, music and books!

So, in myprevious post I forgot to indulge about the events of last Friday (4th May). This event was my school prom! It was hosted at the Lion Quays out of town and went on for about four hours. I was escorted there and back with my friend Declan in his Dad's Nissan GTR sports car - basically a very quick and flashy car (bottom left) . Here are four photos, as you can see I rocked a grey suit with a red bowtie (hard to make out from these pictures). I had a really great time reminiscing with people, dining and dancing the night away! My favourite photo out of these four is the top left, I am on the right with my science teacher in the middle and Jack on the left. If given the opportunity, I would definitely do it again; time whooshed by!

More recently, last night (Saturday 12th May) I accompanied my Nan and Uncle-in-law to the St. Martin's music festival 2012 at the Cross Keys pub. We arrived at about half seven and saw three good acts, the first band being The Kaya's who played original material and were quite rocky but were rather overlooked, the second band who I think were called Dischord played a set full of covers, but it was perfect for the occasion; they opened with Thin Lizzy's Jailbreak and I thought the singer was destined for a night of murdering songs as he wasn't too convincing with that effort. Following was Lenny Kravitz' Are You Gonna Go My Way and immediately my thoughts were reversed - it is a song I quite like and the vocals were superb! From then on, the night got better and we were gifted songs by Bad Company, Queen, Bob Dylan, U2 and others. My favourite by far was their cover of Led Zeppelin's Rock and Roll - they totally nailed it on all parts, the crowd by this point were up for it and everyone was having a great time. They ended their well recieved set with the Foo Fighter's All My Life. Splendid! The last act were called The Decades and have performed at William & Kate's wedding so the standards were high, their set was more pop lovey style songs so out of choice I prefered Dischord, but to be far to The Decades they performed very well and their female vocalist was excellent, not so sure about the man though.

To finish this post, I am proudly displaying the weekend's personal success, 5 books for 50p each!! These books were obtained from various sources: Sherlock Holmes at an Oswestry Market stall, Hammer of the Gods, Aerosmith What It Takes and How Black Was Our Sabbath at The Works and History of Latin America from a car boot sale! Very pleased and they will keep me going! Thanks for reading!

School's Out For Summer!

So today, was my last EVER full day of compulory school lessons at The Marches School! This is because as of tomorrow 'revision school' kicks in. 'Revision school' is our study leave and it means that we only have to attend lessons where we haven't done final exams in or finished courseworks, subjects like PE and Citizenship where there is no coursework or exams we are no longer doing!

For me, I only have Drama, English, Science, History and ICT left! My drama exam is next Friday (18th May) and Friday's are also the day of my ICT lessons so after next week, Friday will provide the early weekend! If you're reading this and aren't jealous yet, now is the time! My final exam is on the 25th June and after that date I'm a free man!

That's pretty exciting news but also, in the summer (starting 23rd July) I'm attending the National Citizen Service Engage 4 Life course for six weeks, the first week we go away and do activities including archery - a childhood dream and an opportunity I cannot pass away, mainly inspired by Robin Hood -, rock climbing, kayaking and others! The other weeks we are working on less exciting but equally important things like meeting business leaders and figuring out a way of giving our community something back! The best part is, at the end of the course as a celebration there's a free gig! The course costs £30 and if you stay all the way through and attend the 'graduation' (gig) you get £25 back!

After those six weeks of madness, education and creativity, I'll still have 6/7 weeks of the summer left! Times are looking good right now! Sorry for not posting for a while, I had some problems with the battery life of my laptop which my uncle Ian was able to sort out - thanks!! I've also been busy on Fifa 12, such an addictive game, reading about Che Guevara's Cuban Warfare Reminiscence and writing lyrics for an exciting project that shall be revealed soon!

Hygienic Horror!

So, in the two week half term for Easter I pleasantly enjoyed, it seems The Marches School were focusing their efforts on re-designing and recreating the boys' toilets by performing arts. These new toilets are very modern in style, feature a red and blue colour scheme and have got speakers constantly tuned into BBC Shropshire's radio station to lift the atmosphere a bit.

From reading that, you're probably thinking this is very good and people are happy with the changes. Up to this point, you're right; for you see there are a solid row of cubicles that have bottom to ceiling barriers, no urinals and an "open to the corridor" hand washing area (as described in the The Marches' letter subjecting the toilets).

The problem here is, now that everyone is free to observe the males actions after visiting these new cubicles, I have realised just how shocking the hygiene standards in this school are. Today I filled in a tally chart to try and prove my ill-fated suspicions right or wrong, and it turns out that out of a total of 31 students that were counted, 14 did wash their hands after toilet use but an increased and disgusting total of 17 pupils neglected their hygiene.

Personally, I find this very interesting (why these teenagers believe they shouldn't wash their hands) and extremely repulsive. I did a little research and found out that the amount of germs on your fingertips DOUBLE after toilet use - surely this would increase your chances of wanting to clean yourself. This is not just a problem for these foolish and neglecting teens, but for anyone in the school, for say if they do not wash their hands, then in the next lesson are handing out sheets to everyone in the class, the germs have been spread to the innocent and hygiene abiding pupils unfairly.

All this trouble from such a simple and primitive 30 second task. The mentality of such behaviour is truly outrageous and something must be done. Once or twice I have asked those in question why they didn't wash their hands, one student "couldn't be arsed" another simply laughed at me. I'm sorry to waffle on about this but another incident that shocked me was when I commanded one young boy to wash his hands as he blatantly wasn't going to and he looked at me as if I had just instructed him to walk off a cliff.

Again I apologise for such a focused rant, but this really sickens me and I hope the standards improve very soon. If you have any enquiries or comments, please don't hesitate to post them below. Thanks for reading!

Cancer Bats 'Dead Set On Living' Review

Opening calmly with a somewhat eerie atmosphere, it is clear from the first drum beat that Cancer Bats are not for hanging around. The guitar riffs and bass are as complimentary to each other as ever and Liam's ever happy rainbow dust style lyrics "There's a special place in hell for people like you!" are supplying the icing on this battering ram of sound cake.
One thing that Dead Set on Living does that previously I have not detected in the Bats' sound is groove! The presence and element of groove they add - not too much to alter their trusted style but enough to get noticed and impress - provides a whole new dimension to their music which prior to this people, including myself, thought their fusion of metal and punk was incapable of any other addition as weighty and fulfilling as this groove. It shows a degree of maturity, and also that, musically, these four Canadian's are on a very expansive path with possibilities that they are fully aware of.
The first track from this steel ripping album to blast my ear drums down was 'Old Blood' and, of course, I was incomparably and unexpectedly impressed. The successor of 'R.A.T.S' is 'Bricks and Mortar' and as the title suggests it is a pummelling mix of what I love about Cancer Bats, full out aggression, throat wrenching screams, unaltered heaviness and the slightest whiff of groove can be detected.
'Road Sick', the second single with a rather amusing music video changes the tone and immediately bellows 'We're VERY punk'. This is pleasing, after two crushing tracks that the Bats' know to surprise their audience and deliver a more emotional message in this brilliant track. Any doubters by this point must surely be swallowing their hateful words and regretting the day they crossed Liam Cormier and co. Luckily for me, I was not foolish enough to imprison myself like that.
There are one or two songs on this album that perhaps do not leave the same effect on the listener as the previously praised more stand out tracks, 'Breath Armageddon' is an example; the chorus is catchy and sing-alongy, but nothing about the song grabs your attention. Although it does have a very homely and welcoming sort of vibe - the vibe that is found on the best albums and not specifically the best individual tracks.
The title track and fifth in order, is winning the vote for most anthemic. With superb time changes and infectious bellowing of "I will, never forget!" reassures you that the Bats take their work very seriously and reminds you of how glad you are that they were a prized discovery.
'The Void' features yet another new added element - doom! The song starts slowly building an atmosphere of pure doom ridden madness; then the grooviest Cancer Bats riff ever written kicks in and you're almost knocked off your feet. The track continues beautifully and fulfils the hype it gives itself with such fantastic song writing. Some may be wondering that they made a mistake when purchasing - underestimating how much of a chemical equation they were in for: Punky groove + Doomy metal = Cancer Bats. Balancing it is a totally different task.
At this point, the arrival of 'Old Blood', you should've have decided that what you are listening to is a pure goddamn gem. If this is a track you (somehow) hadn't heard prior to right now you are most likely completely stunned and struggling to find the words necessary to praise these sweaty, beard endorsers enough! Keep it comin'!
Track eight - 'Drunken Physics', is one of rather anthemic qualities and hits extremely heavily, the Bats here show off their mastered use of switching from very doomy and heavy breakdown chorus sections to fast paced verses brilliantly. The listener can ask for no more and should be truly enthralled by the master class they are witnessing.
The pleasantly christened 'Bastards' doesn't do a lot until the explosive side comes out at the chorus, the switch from comfortable consistent riffing to a heavy anthemic and very groovy chorus really does make a positive impact on the listener. Although this track is not one you would single out as a great individual track, it is with the likes of' Breath Armageddon' in the sense that these are songs that make the ALBUM excellent, and without them the likes of 'Bricks and Mortar' would not impress as much.
The penultimate 'Rally The Wicked' does an excellent job incurring repetition to build the tension and make that big explosion so much better and the sudden calm down moment perhaps surprises as this is not the usual method, but again things like that make this album so fantastic.
Finally, album closer time! It has been a truly marvellous journey to here and the finisher 'New World Alliance' is no worse than anything here. It does have a very definitive album closer vibe and that vibe is worn very proudly which is a good sign. All in all, this album deserves to reach the Bats' new heights as they truly deserve it!

Dead Set On Living!

Hello everyone!
Andy here, sorry this blog has been somewhat dormant, I have been rather busy recently and here's why:

School is getting more intense as we near our final set of GCSE's and concentration levels increase rapidly. Also, coursework projects have kept me behind after hours for a lot of the time but most are finished now and study leave is fast approaching so I will be free soon enough!

During the Easter half-term, I vacated to a sunnier and very different place with the other 6 members of my family (Mum, Dad, Sisters 1, 2, 3 & 4. Lucky, aren't I?) for the first week; this was thoroughly enjoyable and a welcome break! The second week of this half term was spent mainly relaxing and a lot of reading has been done.

I have taken an interest in particular in Che Guevara's works; he was such a revolutionary man and it astonishes me as to how he kept such brilliant diaries. By reading them, I feel like I am gaining an insight into what went through his mind and of course his 'Guerilla Warfare' book is an expertly written manual on how to employ the tactics of guerilla warfare and how they were successful in Cuba during the revolution.

Also, the Brian McGilloway authored Inspector Devlin series has become a favourite of mine and I am ever so glad I picked up 'Gallows Lane' in Waterstones the day I did, for otherwise I would be missing out on such an intellectual and clever thrilling series that never fails to impress.

More recently, Cancer Bats - a band I have discovered toward the end of March and become truly enthralled by - released their Dead Set on Living album! It is just shy of 40 minutes and is an absolute treat for any fan of genius music or any CB fan. I have written a review of it as a display of my affection and will be posting it soon!
Thanks for reading and once again I am sorry at the lack of posts previously!
Andy.

Whats been 'appenin'

Ola!
This week saw a return to school after a chilled week off and it wasn't too bad; the weekend arrived quickly enough to our saviour. Also on Wednesday Waterloo Road returned to TV but we have lost Hustle forever which is a shame, although Benidorm is back to fill the hole it left. So a few changes, possibly for the better.

Yesterday happened to be the much anticipated Saturday; it arrived with a light breath of relaxation and fun. My friend Haiden hosted a barbecue in the day and some delicious burgers were being served up by the tens, then I headed home for 4pm in high spirits to witness what I hoped would be a match of England displaying their superiority over Wales, the reality was quite disappointing as we (England) lost 19-12. The game was pretty tight and was just penalty points until the last 5 minutes where Wales scored a lucky try and the final minute England thought they got one but after much consideration the referee awarded a no try. Oh well.

So, after that travesty things did lighten up as last night my friends Silent Blackout played a gig - a headlining gig - at the Ironworks in town, entrance was free and they had two decent support acts. It was definitely the most fun gig of theirs I've been to - when I got home I think my feet were ready to drop off due to the amount of dancing I produced; rightly I got championed as the best dancer of the night! Drop a comment below about anything, you don't need to sign in to comment! Thanks for reading, Andy.

The Sun Shall Rise

Ah hello, extremely glad you could visit this domain today, on such a spectacular occasion.

Today, 21st February 2012, is of course more famously known as the glorious pancake day. This means that we (Britons) celebrate the brilliance of such a simple and delicious treat. Usually, the event of pancake day means that pancakes are the meal time highlight, but not for me tonight; I had a beef stew and personally pancake day has been delayed until tomorrow; better late than never is all I can say.

Onto in some opinions more important matters now, if you read my last blog post then you should know by this point what I am referring to; the new reign. By this I mean the changing of my blog title. Right now, is of course time for the sun to rise. The new way of living is introduced, one life ends and a new one begins. The change is to mark a bit of a milestone of exceeding my tenth post if you were unaware, the content of my posts shall probably remain the same, but who can predict the future?

Today's post is not a big one, it was intended more as a bulletin of the update. So I leave you with and ask you, what do you think of pancake day - like it? dislike it? and what do you make of the new blog changes? Answer these questions in the comment section below - you do not need an account to comment and anonymity is offered. I shall reply to and take on your views eagerly and for the benefit of this site.

Thanks for reading, Andy!

This is the end

Eager readers, I welcome you, one and all!

It has been approximately six days since my last blog post, and this one bears some significance. As this is my tenth post - a bit of a milestone - I am acknowledging this achievement by altering the title of my blog. The current title 'Verteider der Wahrheit' is the German translation of 'Defender of Truth'. I chose this as the title because I wanted a mysterious element to my blog and possibly some out of the ordinary thinking. So, as of my next blog post (after this one of course) a new title will be functioning regularly. Perhaps for the duration of 10 posts, perhaps longer. The permanency of the change is yet to be decided.

Moving on, I spoke in my last post about the Silent Blackout gig I attended on the 11th February and my plans for the rest of the week; Wednesday was a bit of a letdown as Alestorm was scheduled and was for months, did not happen. This is because I felt sick (relating to the previous night) and tired; not an ideal combination for gig-goers.

Wednesday wasn't all bad though, I had a good day in Wrexham with some friends, watched Star Wars: Episode 1 The Phantom Menace in 3D, it was good, but not as good as expected. The three dimensional effects were more subtle than popping out in your face, although perhaps remastering a film in a new dimension is harder than it sounds, and seeing Star Wars in the cinema was amazing, I never got to see any of the modern ones when I was younger so I cherished the experience.

To conclude this final post under the Verteidiger reign, I shall summarise the events of last night - Friday - I accompanied my Dad to a local music venue/pub in town called the Ironworks as at 9pm, they had a Guns 'n' Roses tribute band playing, we thought why not as the event was priced at a pleasing £5. The band took after Guns instantly, as they didn't start playing for at least half an hour, something G'n'R fans are accustomed to. The band did a good job of replicating imagery and nailing a well chosen set list, obvious stand outs were Slash and Axl, Slash doing a fantastic job with those famous riffs and exquisite solo's, Axl had all the moves and hit all the right notes. A truly good night.

Thank you for reading and I shall grace your computer screen again when the new regime kicks in!
Andy.

Half-term!

Hello! Today is Sunday, 12th February and for once this day of the week is not filled with dismay for a return to another week of academic life as tomorrow through to Friday is a half-term!

To start off this beloved opportunity of a week off, my friends in the local band Silent Blackout played a free gig at The Miners Arms pub in Morda (not to be mistaken for Mordor in Lord of The Rings!!) Perhaps not the most professional of venues, but a pub atmosphere with a collection of good friends and funky tunes is always better than a night in front of the TV. I thought the boys collectively performed well and were very confident, which is always a good sign. They played a sizable set consisting mainly of covers, including Green Day, Velvet Revolver, Metallica, Foo Fighters and a few more plus two or three of their own material was thrown in and received a decent reaction.

They ended with an encore of the ever fantastic Sweet Child O' Mine, that extremely famous riff executed precisely by Jamie McGowan on lead guitar, the Axl Rose imitation amusing from the vocalist Harry Davies, Duff McKagan's bass line delivered by the phenomenal Kieran Jones and Jack Hesketh of course bashing those drums in great rhythm and melody to complete the sound. I for one did enjoy the entertainment they supplied and look forward to their next gig.

Next up on my list of gigs, is of course Alestorm on Wednesday. Over 250 tickets for the show have been sold so it should be a hell of a night! Check my Youtube @ www.youtube.com/user/HiToppzx and follow me on Twitter!: @aandysmith

Summarisation

Hello! Welcome to blog of Andy, happy to accommodate you! Today I have various things to start with, I'm going to start with a summary of my weekend.

On Friday, I stayed inside in honour of Friday being the height of the weeks television; a night of a double bill of Coronation Street, an episode of Hustle, and Stella. Wow. Some may accuse me of nerdish ways, but nothing beats rushing down the stairs at 7.30pm precisely to catch the opening theme signalling the arrival of those glorious cobbles. After two very digestible half an hour blasts of life in the street - broken up with a 30 minute gap in between - you find yourself at 9.00pm, and facing a dilemma.

This dilemma, is that Hustle and Stella, the two hour long features that make up the rest of your Friday night equation, start at that exact time. How do you find a way around this? Well of course, by exercising the power presented to you by the investment that is Sky+! The way we tend to handle the situation, is by setting Stella to record while you let the Hustle gang make your brain function more than any average school week. So, after a total mind frazzling due to attempting to keep up with the successful scandals of Hustle, you know that its time to pay a visit to Tylerstown.

This total change of location, characters and scenarios is rather welcome, yet still equally entertaining. The adventures of reborn Ruth Jones (creator of Gavin & Stacey - recognisable as Nessa) and catch up with the unlikely mishaps of her comedic locals.  By now, it is 11pm and sleep sounds a very sensible idea, but of course Fifa may tempt you.

Saturday arrives, the morning is passed by a shower, cleaning the room and blasting a cd very loud until the strike of midday when it is time to brave the weather and congregate with fellow town seekers. Laughs and fun are chased for the majority of the day, then I headed home accompanied by Dec, a friend who is staying over. We eat, watch Saturday night TV, a film and then spend the rest of the night on the PS3.

Sunday is easily the most relaxed and laidback day, as it consists of listening to A LOT of music, playing Fifa and accomplishing whatever bits of overstanding homework there may be. So folks, that is what I did this weekend, hope you enjoyed reading it and I apologise for it being so lengthy. What did you do this weekend? Drop a comment below!

I'm leaving it with my latest video blog today, put up yesterday, talking about a few different things, here ya go!:
Thanks for reading, Andy.

Strong with you, the force is Master.

Greetings! Come to the right place, you have!

Today, I have some very exciting - and rather leaning towards the geek side of life - news. This month, hitting cinemas everywhere, as possibly the greatest collection of sci-fi motion pictures ever created are set to enter the realms of 3D. The latest adventure in the Star Wars world is to give us Epsiode 1: The Phantom Menace in 3 dimensional viewing experiences. This new anticipated version of Episode 1 is due out on the 10th February, meaning when I go to see Alestorm on the 15th I may hit the cinema earlier in the day..

On Tuesday night I'm sure you heard about the events at Goodison (If you follow football, if not then read on) as a fan handuffed himself to the goalpost during the Everton vs Manchester City match. He allegedly did this to protest against Ryanair for not hiring his daughter. This radical act may have affected the course of the match but anyway Everton went on to beat City by a goal to none, and rightfully put a stop to their constant and sickening smugness.

In the world of television this week, Coronation Street's storyline is very much seat edge stuff, containing the Frank Foster rape charge court case, and things are flying out, like Peter's affair with Carla being exposed to Leanne for example. Also, in the world of internet entertainment, I hvae uploaded my eighth vlog today, my first in about a week. You can view it here:

Hope you enjoyed reading, I'll blog again in a day or two.
Thanks,
Andy!

Farewell to thou January!

Greetings readers! Andy here, with my final post of the month!

To start off, I'm going to point out something I missed last post, the fact that my February DOES in fact explode into action, as tomorrow (1st February) I am en voyaging with my School to see a theatre production of J.B. Priestley's An Inspector Calls. Due to this event, there won't be a blog tomorrow at all, or a vlog. I am looking forward to the play, as I have rather enjoyed all previous theatre visits and believe that what I have read of the play has captivated my interest. Do you have anything interesting happening next month? Let me know in the comments section!

I want to talk a little about the current Metal Hammer issue also; I bought it a week or two back and am still hammering through it, it is such a great magazine - especially value wise. £4.75 gets you 188 pages of nothing else than the planet's greatest genre and the majority of its sub-genre branches. This month's issue featured a true metal hero and icon Phil Anselmo gracing the front cover as he is set to release some new material with his band Down. Down are a great band, not like Pantera (Phil's previous band) much, as they are far more relaxing and often called sludge/stoner music. I have their third record: Over The Under and truly do recognise the great efforts. One thing that significantly improves this album is the fact that the bassist is Rex Brown who was Phil's band mate in Pantera. If you haven't heard them, check out 'Stone The Crow' from their debut in '95.

Also, recently I have very much gotten into recently is a young, talented fellow called Sonny Moore who was a guitar player and singer in an alternative rock band, who has drastically changed his style and is kicking up a huge whirlwind of popularity and awareness with his musical change. These days, Skrillex - as he is now known - is a dubstep producer. A bit differentiating from my usual taste yes, but what he's doing is fresh, exciting and extremely catchy. If you haven't heard any of his stuff, I suggest taking a listen to 'Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites' from the Scary Monsters EP.

That's all for today, thanks for reading and check my Youtube at www.youtube.com/user/HiToppzx and follow me on twitter @aandysmith.
Thanks,
Andy!

February approaches!

Guten tag! Today is the penultimate day of January 2012; so I feel it is time to look ahead to the second phase of the year.

February! Personally, I have a rather excitable month lined-up. 'Tis not too explosive in the sense that the events I am looking forward to begin precisely half-way through the month so a lot of patience and build up is necessary. First of all, there is a week off school from the 12th - 17th, a welcome break in the hectic schedule of a final year student.

Midway through this week, on the 15th (Wednesday), Alestorm (Scottish pirate metal band - pictured below) are playing in a close venue and I, along with a gang of pirate wannabee allies have tickets and are going to be attending, then two days later on 17th there is a Guns 'n' Roses tribute band playing in my town for a fiver, I will not be missing that! I believe there may be one or two free live acts gigging around my town sometime so hopefully I can attend those too.

Now, I have not posted since Tuesday due to the fact I have been ill, in bed every day of the week since Tuesday. This has meant missing four days of school in total, so I only had a one day week in the academic world. Not bad, if I had have felt okay, which was not the case. The big downside from missing school was the fact I have a science examination tomorrow (30th) and there were multiple revision sessions on after school which of course I could not have attended.

The only real plus from this week has been I feel a lot less tired and dependant on caffeine, and my Samsung D75 digital camera arrived! Also, this week has seen the video featured in my last blog (Lamb of God 'Resolution' Review (Part 1)) take off, it has reached 150+ views and I have uploaded its sequel; here ya go!

I have set up a photobucket account recently, you can check that out here: http://s1267.photobucket.com/profile/aandysmith/index
My twitter username has been changed to: @aandysmith
My YouTube channel - there will be vlogs uploaded soon, I haven't put one up recently due to being ill -: www.youtube.com/user/HiToppzx

I've rambled on a bit, but had a lot to say so thanks for reading, wish me luck in my exam and I shall post again soon!
